Prof. Dr. Edward Y. Chang received his B.S. degree from Materials Science and Engineering, National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan in 1977, and his Ph.D. degree from Materials Science and Engineering, University of Minnesota Minneapolis, MN in 1985. Dr. Chang was with Unisys Corporation GaAs Component Group, Eagan, MN, 1985 to 1988 and Comsat Labs Microelectronic Group from 1988 to 1992. He worked on the GaAs MMIC programs on both groups. He joined National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1992. In 1994, he helped set up the first GaAs MMIC production line in Taiwan, and become president of Hexawave Inc., Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1995. He returned to the teaching position at NCTU in 1999. Dr. Chang is currently the Dean of Research and Development and professor of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Dept of Elecrical Engineering at NCTU. He is also the director of Diamond Lab and the director of NCTU-TSMC research center. His research interests include new device and process technologies for Compound Semiconductors for wireless communication and high power electronic applications.. Dr. Chang is a senior member and a DL(Distinguished Lecturer) of the IEEE Electronic Device Society. Currently his research activities include InP, GaAs based compound materials and devices (HEMT, HBT) for wireless communication and sub-milimeterwave imaging applications. National Award for Academic Contribution to Industry and Industry and Economy Contribution Award, both from Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan. Distinguished Electrical Engineering Professor Award from Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering. He is also Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE, Fellow of Taiwanese Materials Society, and Fellow of IEEE.

His research interests include new device and process technologies for Compound Semiconductors for wireless communication and high power electronic applications.. Dr. Chang is a senior member and a DL(Distinguished Lecturer) of the IEEE Electronic Device Society. Dr S.Joseph Antony is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Particle Science and Engineering, School of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Leeds, U.K.His research expertise is in the area of nano and micromechanics, multi-scale modelling and experimental mechanics of materials in both discrete and continuum form. Joseph has published over 100 papers in several reputed international journals and conference proceedings.He actively participates in the activities of particle technology community in U.K and abroad. He holds membership in several international professional bodies and serves in technical committees in his area of research. Currently, he serves as a member of peer reviewers in his area of research for several international journals. He is the lead editor of the book on Advances in Granular Materials: Fundamentals and Applications, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London (2004). He has won many awards, including the prestigious M.I.T Young Research Fellowship for Exemplary Research in Computational Mechanics and the Certificate of Merit as an Example of Outstanding Achievements in U.K Particle Science and Technology in 2002, PTSG, IChemE, U.K, He has served as a guest editor for the Jl. Granular Matter and the lead editor of the book ‘Granular Materials: Fundamentals and Applications’, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London in 2004. Presently Joseph serves as an editorial board member of several journals in the area of Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology. Dr. Dongsheng Mao joined Applied Nanotech, Inc. in 2001 and is highly experienced in nano-enabled R&D, product development, and commercialization. He is currently the Vice President of Engineering for Applied Nanotech, Inc where he is also involved in management responsibilities and business development. He has 25 years’ experience in advanced materials including 20+ years’ experience in nanomaterials and nanotechnology. He has successfully managed a number of R&D projects. A number of high performance products were already put to the market place based on his effort. Dr. Mao has over 50 scientific publications. He is an inventor of co-inventor of over 40 granted US and PCT patents with more patents pending.

His research interests are composites, fiber reinforced composites, nanocomposites, nanomaterials, electric materials and devices, metallic inks and pastes, thin films, solar energy, etc.

Dr. Mohammad Qasaimeh is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). He established the Advanced Microfluidics and Microdevices Laboratory (AMMLab) at NYUAD in September 2014, and his current research interests include developing microfluidic and MEMS devices for biomedical applications and point of care diagnostics. Prior to joining NYUAD, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Qasaimeh completed his PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2013 from McGill University, where he received several prestigious fellowships and awards including the NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Alexander Graham Bell Graduate Scholarship (CGSD3), and the FQRNT Students-Researchers Stars Award. Dr. Qasaimeh research has been published in several peer-reviewed journals including Nature Communications, PLOS Biology, Lab on a Chip, and Biomedical Microdevies.

Dr. Mary Mehrnoosh Eshaghian-Wilner has over 26 years of research experience in various areas within the field of Computer Engineering. Additionally, she has worked in the area of patent law for several years. She has published numerous scientific papers, including two books, and has handled the prosecution and infringement analysis of many complex U.S. and international patents. Dr. Eshaghian-Wilner currently is a Professor of Engineering Practice at the Electrical Engineering-Systems Department at the University of Southern California (USC), and since 2004 has been an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Prior to joining UCLA, she was a tenured full Professor and Department Head at the Computer Engineering Department of Rochester Institute of Technology. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner received her B.S. degree in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering (1985), M.S. degree in Computer Engineering (1985), her Engineers degree in Electrical Engineering (1988), and her Ph.D. in Computer Engineering (1988), all from USC. She holds a J.D. degree from the Northwestern California School of Law, and has graduated Cum Laude with an LL.M. degree from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. She is admitted to the State Bar of California and the Washington, D.C. Bar, and is registered as a Patent Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner is best known for her pioneering contributions to three areas of Optical Computing, Heterogeneous Computing, and Nanoscale Computing. In the area of Optical Computing, she produced one of the first theses that dealt with the computational aspects of optical interconnects for VLSI chips. The OMC model was developed by Professor Eshaghian-Wilner as part of her Ph.D. work, and since then, many architectures and algorithms have been designed by on that model. In the area of Heterogeneous Computing, Professor Eshaghian-Wilner is the editor of the field's first book, "Heterogeneous Computing," and she is the co- founder of the IEEE Heterogeneous Computing Workshop. The NSF-funded Cluster-M model was developed by her team, as one of the first paradigms for executing heterogeneous applications to systems. The Cluster-M mapping is still the fastest known algorithm for mapping arbitrary task graphs onto arbitrary system graphs. In the area of Nanoscale Computing, one of Professor Eshaghian-Wilner's most notable results involves the design of highly interconnected multiprocessor chips with spin waves that possess an unprecedented degree of interconnectivity that was not possible previously with electrical VLSI interconnects. These designs have a great potential to be used as part of miniature implantable devices for biomedical applications and nanomedicine. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner serves on the editorial board of Journal of Nanomedicine and Nanotechnology, and is a founding series co-editor of "Nature Inspired Computing" for Wiley & Sons. She has edited the first book of this series, "Bio-inspired and Nanoscale Integrated Computing". Professor Eshaghian-Wilner's most recent area of research is in Technology Law. She is investigating how various forms of emerging technologies may be impacted by, and come into conflict with, U.S. and international policies and laws. For example, Pervasive (heterogeneous/ubiquitous) computing and nanotechnology are two emerging technologies in which she an extensive scientific background. While these two technologies are entirely different from each other, they both are seemingly invisible, one in terms of interconnectivity and the other in terms of size. They can therefore introduce continuously magnifying challenges to policies and laws that protect rights and property. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner has founded and/or chaired numerous IEEE conferences and organizations, including the IEEE Women in Engineering affinity division of the Coastal Los Angeles Section. She is the recipient of several prestigious grants and honors including a teaching award for being voted as the best teacher by her engineering students. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner is a nominee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.

Ramesh K. Agarwal is the William Palm Professor of Engineering and the director of Aerospace Research and Education Center at Washington University in St. Louis. From 1994 to 2001, he was the Sam Bloomfield Distinguished Professor and Executive Director of the National Institute for Aviation Research at Wichita State University in Kansas. From 1978 to 1994, he worked in various scientific and managerial positions at McDonnell Douglas Research Laboratories in St. Louis. He became the Program Director and McDonnell Douglas Fellow in 1990. Dr. Agarwal received Ph.D. in Aeronautical Sciences from Stanford University in 1975, M.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1969 and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 1968. Over a period of 35+ years, Professor Agarwal has worked in various areas of Computational Science and Engineering - Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Computational Materials Science, Computational Electromagnetics (CEM), and Multidisciplinary Design and Optimization. He is the author and coauthor of over 400 publications. He has also worked in Nanotechnology and Renewable Energy, in particular in nanoparticles properties, synthesis, and their applications in drug delivery and their health effects, and energetic materials for solar energy applications. He has given many plenary, keynote and invited lectures at various national and international conferences worldwide. Professor Agarwal continues to serve on many academic, government, and industrial advisory committees. Dr. Agarwal is a Fellow sixteen societies including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS), American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), American Physical Society (APS), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Royal Aeronautical Society and American society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He has received many prestigious honors and national/international awards from various professional societies and organizations for his research contributions.

Dr Jose Luis Menendez is a tenured scientist working for the Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology Research Center from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CINN-CSIC). He obtained his PhD degree in 2001 after a thesis on the dimensionality effects of optical and magneto-optical properties of Fe based systems. After a post-doc stay (2002-2004) at the Institut d’Electronique Fondamentale (IEF-CNRS) working on magnetic domain wall propagation in magnetic nanostructures, he started working in the field of transparent ceramics at INCAR-CSIC, mostly spark plasma sintered. Since 2009 he works at CINN-CSIC in the study of the magnetic, optical and magneto-optical properties of ceramics and ceramic nanocomposites. In this time, he has published more than 50 articles in SCI journals, coauthored two book chapters on the spark plasma sintering technique and led several national and European research projects.

Research interests: Ceramic nanocomposites, nanostructured materials, spark plasma sintering, dielectric and optical properties, magneto-optics.

Dr. Daniel Choi received his B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from Seoul National University (South Korea) and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UCLA. Dr. Choi was a staff member for three years at the Aerospace Corporation and a task manager Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)/NASA for nine years, leading a number of space-related projects such as Phoenix and Mars Science Laboratory project. He was an associate professor and director of the Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) program at University of Idaho (USA). Currently, he is Department Head of the Mechanical and Materials Engineering in the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi, UAE. He is also a Science Team for UAE Emirates Mars Mission Program.

Dr. Solhe F. Alshahateet is Associate Professor of Organic and Supramolecular Chemistry graduated in 2003 from the University of New South Wales / Australia. He works at Mutah University since 2007. He received many awards such as Australian Research Council and Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education scholarships. He was engaged in many projects from local and international funding agencies. Dr. Alshahateet attended many conferences worldwide. He published more than 70 articles mostly in international journals dealing with crystal engineering and supramolecular chemistry involving industrial applications. In addition, he is working as a referee and editorial board member for many international specialized journals. Highlights of his research have been in the area of synthesis and characterization of semiconducting materials, organic materials for and industrial applications (functional materials) such as pharmaceutical industry. After completing his PhD (2002) at the UNSW, he undertook research in new synthesis chemistry as a Research Fellow at UNSW for about one year. Since then he had undertaken research into synthesis of new organic materials at the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences ICES, Singapore. He had research visitor appointments at the University of New South Wales (Australia) and at the University of South Florida (USA).

Dr.ElZein, is the director of Research and Consultation Center (RCC) at the University of Business and Technology (UBT) – Jeddah Saudi Arabia. She was a Research Scientist at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), and previously a faculty member at Dar AL Hekma University, KSA and an associate researcher at IEMN, Lille, France. Dr. El Zein Graduated from the Lebanese University with a master of Engineering in Electrical & Electronics Engineering withdistinction. She got her PhD in from the University of Lille 1 –France in Nanotechnology with high distinction. She is a senior member of IEEE, member of ACS, MRS, SPIE, ECS and Lebanese Engineering syndicate. She has been selected as Solar Pioneer by MESIA during WFES 2015 in Abu Dhabi. She is a reviewer in many international, peer-reviewed journals, the chair or co-chair and on the committee of different international conferences, she published in many international journals and had one filed patent.

Her recent research interests include working on nanostructures for third generation solar cells, energy harvesting and energy storage. She recently gained 2 grants from King AbdulAziz City for science and technology (KACST), to support her research on Nanostructures for Photovoltaic applications, where she is mentoring a PhD student and collaborating with many international research centers. The main objective of her research is to develop an eco-green with high efficiency and long durability Solar cells. In addition to this, she is exploring new materials such as kesterite, perovskite and protein to be used as light absorber for Solid state sensitized solar cells

Mohammad Mehdi Rashidi is born in Hamedan, Iran in 1972. He received his B.Sc. degree in Bu-Ali Sina University, Hamedan, Iran in 1995. He also received his M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees from Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran, Iran in 1997 and 2002, respectively. His research focuses on Heat and Mass Transfer, Wind Tunnel, Thermodynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Nonlinear Analysis, Engineering Mathematics, Exergy and Second Law Analysis, Numerical and Experimental Investigations of Nanofluids Flow for Increasing Heat Transfer and Study of Magnetohydrodynamic Viscous Flow.He is a professor of Mechanical Engineering at Tongji University, Shanghai, China. He has published two books: Advanced Engineering Mathematics with Applied Examples of MATHEMATICA Software (2007) (320 pages) (in Persian), and Mathematical Modelling of Nonlinear Flows of Micropolar Fluids (Germany, Lambert Academic Press, 2011). His works have been published in the Plos One, Energy, Computers and Fluids, Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation and several other peer-reviewed international journals. Prof. R. P. Singh has contributed over three decades of his dedicated service for research and science education. He is currently a Professor at Department of Biotechnology, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India. Dr. Singh received his Master’s in Biochemistry from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, India and Doctoral degree in Microbial biochemistry from Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India. He had continued as a Research Associate at Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh. Further he worked at National Institutes of Health, USA and Harvard Medical School, USA as a Visiting Fellow and as a Research Officer for more than five years. He was also a visiting faculty for a year at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, USA. His research interests primarily include enzyme engineering, biofuels, biopolymers and targeted drug delivery. Masamichi Yoshimura is the Professor and group leader of Surface Science laboratory at Toyota Technological Institute Nagoya Japan. He is well-known for his research on nanotechnology and surface science. He has developed high performance nanomaterials for batteries and other energy devices. He is the fellow of Surface Science Society of Japan and editor for various internal journals including Japanese Journal of Applied Physics. He was the president of surface science society. He has done pioneering research in the field of scanning probe microscopy high tech carbon materials. He has published over 200 papers in the international journals and delivered numerous invited and keynote lectures. He has BS, MS, and PhD in applied physics and all from University of Tokyo Japan. He was visiting scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory USA for one year and Associate Professor at Hiroshima University prior to joining Toyota Institute Nagoya.

Dr. Apurbba Kumar Sharma is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at IIT Roorkee, India. Currently, he is also holding the posts of Associate Dean, Academic Studies in this Institute and Chairman, Institute Academic Performance Evaluation Committee, IIT Roorkee. He has obtained his Bachelor degree from Dibrugarh University, Assam. He has subsequently obtained his Masters and PhD degrees from IIT Madras. Dr. Sharma has five Indian Patents to his credit. He has published more than 80 research papers in International Journals. He has also presented/published more than 110 research papers in various International and National Conferences. Dr.Sharma is also a reviewer of several reputed international journals including Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Proceedings of the IMechE Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture, Proceedings of the IMechE Part E: Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering and Surface and Coatings Technology, Surface Engineering and Kovové Materiály-Metallic Materials. He has also edited one International Conference Proceedings. He has developed a Full Web-based Video Course on “Advanced Manufacturing Processes” under the NPTEL Programme of the Government of India. He has also developed a course as the Principal Developer on “Principles of Industrial Engineering” for undergraduate students under the Pilot Phase of the National Mission Project on Pedagogic Development, Sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Govt. of India. He was working as a DAAD (Germany) Fellow in the Pulsed Power and Microwave Technique (IHM), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. He has completed three funded research projects, and two other projects funded by CSIR, and BRNS, Govt of India are in progress. He has also completed few consultancy works. Dr. Sharma is also representing IIT Roorkee as the Principal Member in the Pneumatic Tools Sectional Committee, PGD08 of Production and General Engineering Department at the Bureau of Indian Standards, New Delhi. Dr Rakesh Joshi is lecturer at the School of Materials Science and Engineering. He completed his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in the area of functional nanomaterials. Prior to joining UNSW he was a Marie Curie International Fellow at the University of Manchester. Dr Joshi is in the editorial board of many journals and he is a RACI Chartered Chemist. Dr Joshi has developed experimental methods to prepare Graphene, Carbon Nanotubes and Semiconductors for various applications. Dr Joshi’s breakthrough work on Graphene Oxide membranes is amongst the most influential contributions to this area (R. K. Joshi et al, Science 2014).

Dr. Dongfang Yang is a Sr. Research Officer at the National Research Council Canada. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from University of Guelph in Canada in 1995. His research interests include laser materials processing, pulsed laser and e-beam deposition of thin film, new materials development for energy devices, chemical and optical sensors, and electrochemical studies of organic adsorption and self-assembly monolayer. He has authored 2 book chapters, 1 patent, 45 scientific articles in peer reviewed journals, and 15 papers in conference proceedings. He is currently serving as Member of Editorial Board for journal “The Research & Reviews in Electrochemistry”; “International Journal on Advances in Networks and Services”; “Current Chemical Research” and “Journal of Biochips & Tissue chips” as well as Member of Editorial Advisory Board for the journal “Sensors & Transducers”. He has also held the Adjunct Professorship at the Department of Chemistry, Lakehead University in Canada since 2006.

Dr. Biplab Paul got his Ph. D. in 2011 from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India, where he initiated a new line of research in the area of thermoelectric. In 2011 Dr. Paul joined Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain, where he led another research line in the area of thermal rectification for practica realization of thermal diode. Presently, Dr. Paul is working in Linköping University, Sweden since 2012. His extensive studies in Linköping University has created a new research line in the area of flexible thermoelectric.

Dr. Kaushik Pal is an Assistant Professor in Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at IIT Roorkee since 2012. He started his career as a BE in Mechanical Engineering (2002). After that he obtained his Ph.D Degree (2009) from IIT, Kharagpur. After finishing his Ph.D, he joined to Gyeongsang National University, South Korea for pursuing his Post-Doc research. Prior to joing IIT, Roorkee, he started his journey at NIT Agartala as a faculty member and served there during 2011-2012. His fields of interests are nano materials and other high performance advanced materials. He has authored about 70 publications till date. Also, he has authored two books namely, “Recent Advances in Elastomeric Nanocomposites” and “Recent Advancement in Processing of Wood-Plastic Composites (WPC) Foam”. He has supervised 01 no. Ph.D’s and 07 nos. Ph.D’s are ongoing. Currently, he is handling about 04 nos. of sponsored research projects including some International collaborative project and filed 02 patents. Dr Pathak is currently working as Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. He received his Ph.D. in the area of Millimeter-wave Integrated Circuits from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, New Delhi, India in 2005. Prior to his current assignment at IIT Roorkee in 2006, he held the position of post doctoral research fellow at ’NRD Super Broadband Research Centre, Tohoku Institute of Technology, Sendai, Japan’, as well as Centre for Applied Research in Electronics (CARE), IIT Delhi. Dr.P.Gopinath is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, India. He received his B.Sc. degree in Microbiology and M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology from Bharathidasan University, India. He earned his Ph.D. in Biotechnology at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India. He did his postdoctoral research at University of Rochester Medical Center, New York, USA. Currently his research group in nanobiotechnology laboratory is working on the development of various protein and polymer based nanocarriers for the delivery of various anticancer agents including anticancer drugs, siRNA, genes etc. This group is also exploring the possibilities of various biocompatible imaging agents for cancer diagnosis. In order to realize the efficacy of such therapeutic and imaging agents, they are validating these systems in an artificial scaffold which mimics the in vivo condition to the closest extent. Dr. D.Nagasamy Venkatesh is Assistant Professor at Department of Pharmaceutics, JSS College of Pharmacy, Udhagamandalam. India. Dr. D.Nagasamy Venkatesh is interested in developing certain nanobased drug delivery systems for antiviral and anticancer drugs. His research is also involved in developing sustained/controlled drug delivery systems for certain drugs and analytical and bio-analytical method development for drugs. After his PhD, he moved to the United States and held various positions at The University of Iowa, Florida International University and University of South Florida for more than six years. Prof. Han-Yong Jeon, male, geosynthetics/technical organic materials researcher, graduated from textile engineering department, Hanyang University in 1979. He worked for Hyejeon College, 1982-1990 and Howon University, 1990-1992, Chonnam National University, 1992-2005 and now works for Inha University. Since 1998, he is the director of Geosynthetics Institute (USA)-Korea Directory. From 2008-2012, he worked in International Geosynthetics Society as Council member (2006~2012) and he was the 6th president of Korean Geosynthetics Society (2011~2013). Also, he is members of ASTM D35 and ISO TC221 on geosynthetics from 1998. Now he is the current 32nd President of Korean Fiber Society (2014~2015). Mau Chien DANG received his MSc and PhD in Materials Science from the National Polytechnic Institute in Grenoble (Grenoble INP), France in 1991 and 1994. In 1996 and 2007, he received his Master’s in Management from the University Pierre Mendes France and the Diploma of Habilitation for Research Direction (DHDR) in Materials and Process Engineering from the Grenoble INP. From 1996 to 2004 he was Head of Dept. of Materials Science Fundamentals, Vice-Dean of Faculty of Material Technology, HCM City University of Technology. Since 2005 he has been Associate Professor. Dr. Hui-Ming Cheng is Professor and Director of Advanced Carbon Research Division of Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science, Institute of Metal Research, the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

His research activities focus on the synthesis, properties and applications of carbon nanotubes, graphene, energy storage materials, photocatalytic semiconducting materials, and high-performance bulk carbon materials. He is a registered professional engineer. He is presently an Ohio Eminent Scholar and The Howard D. Winbigler Professor in the College of Engineering, and the Director of the Nanoprobe Laboratory for Bio- & Nanotechnology and Biomimetics (NLB2) and affiliated faculty in John Glenn College of Public Affairs at the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. In 2013-14, he served as an ASME/AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow, House Committee on Science, Space & Technology, United States Congress, Washington, DC. His research interests include fundamental studies with a focus on scanning probe techniques in the interdisciplinary areas of bio/nanotribology, bio/nanomechanics and bio/nanomaterials characterization and applications to bio/nanotechnology, and biomimetics. Amar K Mohanty, a Full Professor and Premier’s Research Chair in Biomaterials and Transportation is the Director of Bioproducts Discovery & Development Centre at University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. He is an international leader in the field of bioplastics, biobased materials and advanced bio-refining with a focus in engineering new sustainable materials. He has more than 500 publications to his credit including 260 peer-reviewed journal papers, 25 patents (granted/ filed), several conference presentation, 15 book chapters and three edited books - his total citations being 13,827 with h-index of 56. He was the recipient of the Andrew Chase Forest Products Division Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and Jim Hammer Memorial Service Award from the BioEnvironmental Polymer Society. His R&D excellence has helped in developing a number of industrial products and recently his research innovations have brought three biobased products to the market place

Dr. Mahesh Hosur currently serves as the Director of NSF funded Alabama EPSCoR RII on Enhancing Alabama’s Research Capacity in Nano/Bio Science and Sensors. The state’s research institutions participating in EPSCoR include Alabama A&M University, Auburn University, Tuskegee University, The University of Alabama, University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Alabama at Huntsville, and The University of South Alabama. Prior to his selection to lead this effort in July 2011, he was serving as the Director of the Alabama Center for Nanostructured Materials, a six University consortium under the same program from 2005-2010. Dr. Hosur is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Tuskegee University where he has been a faculty member since 1997. Prior to joining Tuskegee, Dr. Hosur worked as a Scientist in Aeronautical Development Agency in India. He has Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s and PhD degrees in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering respectively.

His research areas of interests are advanced materials for structural applications including fiber reinforced composites, sandwich structures, nanocomposites and biodegradable polymeric natural fiber composites. Dr. Xiang Zhang, Royal Society Industry Fellow of University of Cambridge, has over 33 years combined academia (17 years) and industrial (17 years) experience, Head of Head of Medical Materials and Devices. He is the author of three books “Inorganic Biomaterials”, “Inorganic Controlled Release Technology” and “Science and Principles of Biodegradable and Bioresorbable Medical Polymers - Materials and Properties”. As a materials scientist, he is passionate on “Science for Industry “. Dr. Zhang undertook his PhD and postdoctoral research at Cranfield University where he studied materials physics and micro-mechanics and micro-fracture mechanics of polymeric hybrid (organic and inorganic) materials. After spending a further four years on research for industrial applications, he was awarded an industrial fellowship at the University of Cambridge in 1995. Dr. Zhang’s industry experience was gained in leading an international healthcare company, where, as Principal Scientist and Principal Technologist, his work covered almost all aspects of medical materials and devices from R&D and manufacturing support to failure analysis and QC. Prior to joining Lucideon, he worked as Director of a technology company, in the field of nano-conductive materials and diagnostic medical devices.

Dr Clara Frias joined The university of Manchester in 2014 and a Research Project Manager for the Aerospace Research Institute and Northwest Composiste Centre (NWCC/NCCEF). She obtained his BSc degree in Mathematics (University of Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Portugal), post-graduation in Biomedical devices (University of Porto, Portugal) and PhD in Science of Engineering (University of Porto, Portugal). he has worked for over nine years on research and development of advanced composite materials and structures, looking in particular on smart materials, multifunctional materials and structural health monitoring (SHM). In the last five years she was involved is several Seventh Framework collaborative Projects (FP7). Several topics were addressed on these projects, such as biopolymers, self-reinforced plastics, additive manufacturing, and industrial applications of graphene. Some of the industrial partners involved were: Bombardier, Philips, Röchling Automotive, BAE Systems, B/E Aerospace, Cytec and others. She has around 15 publications in scientific jounals, and an European patent. Clara’s professional path had three years of experience in industry where she developed strong knowledge in composite thermoplastics manufacturing processes.

Phil Turner is Director of Forest Products Research Institute at Edinburgh Napier University. He got Ph.D in Gas phase physics at Imperial College London, 1991. Also dr. Turner was Post doctoral researcher at Imperial College London. As professor in Biophysics he has a particular focus on quantum mechanics and how it can help to better understand cell wall formation. This work extends to the development of new, "bio-inspired" materials. His research sits within the Centre for Plant Science and Biopolymer Research (a research centre within FPRI which he lead). One of his main occupation is the development of this area of research within the Forest Based Industry sector. This is focussed through his role as Chairman of COST Action FP 1105: Understanding wood cell wall structure, biopolymer interaction and composition: Implications for current products and new material innovation. From 2000-2005 he established the Forestry and Forest Products Research Centre as a partnership between the CSIR and the University of Natal. The centre had a diverse range of research activities supporting the Forest Based Sector, with a particular focus on fast growing plantation species including pines and eucalypts.

Ajay Kumar Mishra is a full Professor at the Nanotechnology and Water Sustainability Research Unit at College of Science, Engineering & Technology, University of South Africa, Florida Science Campus, South Africa. He received his B. Sc, M. Sc., degrees in 1997 and 2001 respectively from Purvanchal University Jaunpur, India and M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in 2003 and 2007, respectively, from The University of Delhi, India. From March 2006 to September 2009, he was postdoctoral fellows at various South African Institutes/Universities. In addition, he was appointed as “Senior Lecturer” in October 2009 at the Department of Applied Chemistry, University of Johannesburg, South Africa where he was promoted to “Associate Professor” in November 2011 until December 2014. Recently, he was appointed by University of South Africa as “Full Professor” since January 2015. He is also working as “Adjunct Professor” at Jiangsu University, China.He has authored over 100 scientific papers. He has hosted several visiting researchers/scientists/postdocs in his group. He has also developed a number of collaborations worldwide. He has delivered a number of including Plenary/Keynote/Invited Lectures. For his outstanding research profile, he was awarded a number of international awards. Gordon Blunn is a bio-engineer at the Institute of Orthopedics and Musculoskeletal Science at University College London; he is based at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital. He has been at this Institution for 25 years and during this period of time he has investigated the use of the fixation of implants to the skeleton. He has translated a number of novel treatments and designs into patients, which has enhanced implant fixation. He is currently the president of the British Orthopedic Research Society. Over the last 5 years he has secured in excess of £3.6 million in funding, holds the position of Chief Scientific Officer for Stanmore Implants Worldwide Ltd. and is co-director of the London Implant Retrieval Centre (LIRC). He has extensive research experience in orthopedic medical devices, materials and musculoskeletal tissues. A number of his research projects have been translated into clinical practice. He has worked on the reattachment of tendons to bone and to implant surfaces, the integration of implants with the skeleton, the wear of implant bearing materials and the use of bone graft substitute materials. Recently his research has focused on the design and development of implants, retrieval analysis and reconstruction of bone and joints. He has published over 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals; holds a number of patents on medical devices as well as being a scientific adviser to a number of SMEs.

Andy Lewis completed his degree and PhD at Aston University. He spent his early career with ICI, working in the area of advanced polymer membranes and subsequently with Johnson & Johnson leading projects in absorbent technologies. Andy Lewis is Research & Technology Director for Biocompatibles UK Ltd, a UK-based SME involved in biomaterials development and medical device manufacture (now part of BTG). He specializes in the development of advanced biomedical polymer systems, for instance, to enhance the biocompatibility of implants or to modulate delivery of active agents in the body. These technologies have been applied to novel drug-device combination products for use in interventional therapies in the treatment of cardiovascular disease and cancer. He also coordinates the external research programmes with a number of academic collaborators and is named on over 60 scientific publications and patents in the fields of polymers and biomaterials. In 1997 he moved to Purdue University, where he initiated his independent academic career, and established the Purdue Laboratory for Chemical Nanotechnology (1999). He has edited four books, published one encyclopedia entry, 18 book chapters, over 90 refereed journal papers, over 80 refereed conference proceedings, presented over 30 invited seminars, and more than 200 presentations at National and International conferences.

He was elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering AIMBE in 2013. He received the Berton Rahn research prize award in Orthopedic Research from the Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen AO Foundation in 2012. In 2008 he received the Stephen B. Milam Research Award from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation for contribution to auto-inductive biomaterials for repair of maxillofacial and cranial tissues. He is the North America Editor of the Journal of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering and serves on the Editorial Board of International Journal of Biomaterials and International Journal of Biomedical Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Anand Ramamurthi is an Associate Professor of Molecular Medicine and Biomedical Engineering at the Cleveland Clinic with adjunct appointments at the University of Akron (Integrated Biosciences Program), and Case Western Reserve University (BME). He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering, from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK in 1999 and subsequently was an American Heart Association postdoctoral fellow at the Lerner Research Institute of the Cleveland Clinic (1999-2001), where he developed novel, glycosaminoglycan (GAG)-based biomaterials for biomimetic tissue engineering of aortic heart valve replacements.

Prior to his appointment at the Cleveland Clinic in 2010, Dr. Ramamurthi was a tenured faculty in the Departments of Bioengineering at Clemson University and Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC. His research program focuses on enabling biomimetic regeneration and repair of extracellular matrix structures, specifically the poorly regenerated elastic matrix component, both in vitro, and in situ at sites of chronic matrix disruption (e.g., abdominal aortic aneurysms and pelvic organ prolapse). His research projects span cardiovascular tissue engineering, biomimetic vascular matrix assembly, GAG-based biomaterials for vascular endothelialization and matrix regenerative repair, mechanisms of matrix degeneration in abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs), directed matrix regenerative therapies for AAAs, vascular nanomedicine, stem cell -based matrix regenerative therapies, in vivo bioreactor systems for vascular tissue engineering.

He is a member of several international professional societies in the cardiovascular sciences, biomaterials, and tissue engineering fields, and is a Professional Member of the American Heart Association Council on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology. He serves on several national committees such as that of the North American Vascular Biology Organization (NAVBO), on the editorial broad of several scientific journals in the field of Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine, and Vascular Biomedicine, and actively reviews for the NIH, NSF, AHA, and nearly 30 journals including Tissue Engineering, Biomaterials, and Acta Biomaterialia. Prior to joining the CSCR, he was Associate Professor of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering at the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale, Faculté de Chirurgie Dentaire, Université de Strasbourg, France. He has worked at the WPI Advanced Institute for Materials Research, Japan, as an Assistant Professor. Min Sheu has received his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from University of Washington at Seattle, WA, USA. Since graduation, he has led several teams in R&D of various companies in the medical device industry, including AST Products, Boston Scientific Corp., Atrium Medical (acquired by Maquet Getinge Group) and Covidien (merged with Metronic). He has skillful experience in the development of medical devices, including drug eluting ureteral stents, drug coated stents, antimicrobial and antithrombogenic dialysis catheters, biocompatible flow diverters and vascular embolization implants. His primary expertise is in the development of Class III biomaterial implants, drug-device combination products and medical coatings, and he has over 12 issued and 16 pending US patents as well as 16 peer-reviewed publications in these areas. Recently, Dr. Sheu founded a new company in Taiwan, InnoCept Biomaterials, Inc., to develop novel biomaterial implants for vascular and cancer therapies. Ipsita Roy is a microbial biotechnologist with special expertise in bacterial-derived biodegradable polymers. She is currently a Reader at the School of Life Sciences, University of Westminster, London, UK. She was awarded the prestigious Inlaks Scholarship and the Overseas Research Students Award to study for her Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge. During her time at Cambridge she was awarded the Churchill College Scholarship, the Lundgren Scholarship, Leche Trust Scholarship and the Cambridge University Philosophical Society Fellowship Award. Her postdoctoral work was at the University of Minnesota, USA, at the Bioprocess Technology Institute, where she worked on fatty acid biosynthesis. She taught at the Indian Institute of Technology, India, for four years as an Assistant Professor. During this time she worked actively on the production of biodegradable polymers from Streptomyces. She has been at the University of Westminster since 2000 and leads the Applied Biotechnology Research Group.

Ipsita Roy’s group is currently focused on the production of novel Polyhydroxyalkanoates, PHAs, a family of biodegradable and biocompatible polymers produced by bacteria under nutrient limiting conditions. Her group has pioneered the production of PHAs from Gram positive bacteria such as Bacillus sp., which lack immunogenic properties and hence are highly suitable for medical applications. These include applications in the area of hard tissue engineering, soft tissue engineering, wound healing and drug delivery. She has published over 100 research papers in her area, chaired and organized sessions and presented her work at numerous international conferences. She is an editor of the Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology (JCTB) and has edited an ‘In Focus’ Journal on Biodegradable Polymers, a special issue of the JCTB.

Currently she is editing another In Focus issue on ‘Drug Delivery’. Russell R. Chianelli is currently Director of the Materials Research and Technology Institute at the University of Texas at El Paso and Professor of Chemistry, Materials and Environmental Science and Engineering. After receiving his PhD, he joined the Corporate Research Laboratories of Exxon Research and Engineering Co in 1974. While at this laboratory he conducted research in both fundamental and applied areas of interest to the energy industry. He is recognized worldwide for his work in Transition Metal Sulfide environmental catalytic materials. This work resulted in over 130 publications and 60 issued United States patents. One of his main research achievements is the development of an original method for the three dimensional simulation of liquid mixtures coupling molecular modeling and the Monte Carlo simulation. Dr. John Goodenough is a Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, and holds the Virginia H. Cockrell Centennial Chair in Engineering. Dr. Goodenough's research into the relationships between the chemistry, structure, and electronic/ionic properties of solids addresses fundamental solid state problems in order to design new materials that can enable an engineering function. For example, his work on ionic transport in solid electrolytes and on mixed electronic/ionic conductors has enabled realization of the rechargeable lithium-ion battery used in cellular telephones and laptop computers; it also continues to provide alternative materials for the realization of a medium-temperature solid oxide fuel cell and an oxygen-permeation membrane. His group grows single-crystal specimens as well as synthesizing new ceramic materials. Chemical and structural characterization of his materials accompanies an array of fundamental measurements in which high pressure as well as temperature and chemical composition are used as variables. Technical materials are also studied for engineering performance. In addition to developing new materials for energy conversion and storage, Goodenough has been uncovering the physical mechanisms responsible for unusual physical phenomena such as high temperature superconductivity and the colossal magnetoresistance that occur at the crossover from localized to itinerant electronic behavior. Dr. Goodenough is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the nation's highest honor for engineering professionals. Jin Ho Lee, graduated Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Utah, U. S. A. with Ph. D. degree in 1988. Since 1993, he is a professor in the Department of Advanced Materials, Hannam University, South Korea. He was a President of Korean Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Society (KTERMS) (2012) and served as Conference Chair in Asia-Pacific Meeting of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Societies (TERMIS-AP) (2014).

His research area includes biomaterials for tissue engineering and bioactive molecules delivery. He published more than 220 Scientific research papers, 35 Book chapters, and 55 patents.

Cornelia Gabriela Palivan was born in Brasov, Romania where she was educated until University level. She obtained both her BSc (1982) and MSc (1983) degrees at the University of Bucharest. After 7 years at the Institute of Chemical & Pharmaceutical Research, Bucharest, as project leader in various drug research oriented projects, Cornelia took up a position as Teaching Assistant at the University of Bucharest. Between 1992 - 1994, she made the experimental part of her PhD under the supervision of Professor Michel Geoffroy at the University of Geneva where her long held interest in Electron Paramagnetic Resonance of metal complexes began. In 1995, she gained her PhD degrees with Summa cum Laudae at the University of Bucharest, under the supervision of Professor Voicu Grecu. Two years later, Cornelia was appointed as a University Lecturer at Faculty of Physics, University of Bucharest. In 1999, she moved to the Department of Chemistry at the University of Basel where she was involved in projects using Electron Paramagnetic Resonance to characterise paramagnetic centers in free radicals, metal complexes, and proteins. The introduction to pulse EPR methods was made during her research stage with Professor Arthur Schweiger at the ETH Zurich (2003-2004). She returned to Basel in 2004, as Senior Group Leader in the group of Prof. Wolfgang Meier, and started to develop new hybrid materials at the nanoscale by combining self-assembling copolymers with compounds possessing biological activity, such as enzymes and enzyme-mimics. Jorge Morgado has completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico and postdoctoral studies from the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge UK. Marc Devocelle has completed his PhD at the University of Lille (France) under contract with a pharmaceutical company. He subsequently joined RCSI in 1999 as a postdoctoral researcher and became manager of the Peptide Synthesis Laboratory in 2000. He has since been appointed as a Lecturer in 2004, a Senior Lecturer in 2008 and an Associate Professor of Chemistry in 2014. Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud Nasef is a Professor at Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology, University Technologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia. He is also a Deputy Director the Centre for Hydrogen Energy at the same university. Dr. Nasef holds a PhD in Chem. Eng. from UTM. Mukesh Verma is Chief of the Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program's (EGRP) Methods and Technologies Branch (MTB), and oversees its research portfolio and initiatives that focus on methods to address epidemiologic data collection, study design and analysis, and to modify technological approaches developed in the context of other research endeavors for use as biomarkers and methods to understand cancer susceptibility. He is responsible for stimulating EGRP-funded research on epigenetic approaches in cancer epidemiology and has been instrumental in developing epigenetics research for NIH as a whole. Dr. Verma helped to develop a Request for Applications (RFA) on Environmental Influences on Epigenetics with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and represents the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS), in NIH's Roadmap Initiative on EpigeneticsExternal Web Site Policy. He helped develop an RFA on Comparative Systems Genetics of Cancer with NCI's Division of Cancer Biology (DCB), and is known within the extramural research community as an EGRP Program Director for Program Announcements (PAs) on Small Grants for Cancer Epidemiology and Pilot Studies in Pancreatic Cancer. He also organized a workshop to explore developing a concept for a research initiative on mitochondrial DNA and cancer epidemiology. Dr. Verma was, and continues to be, a co-Program Director for initiatives in gene-environment interactions in cancer etiology, including the Breast and Prostate Cancer and Hormone-Related Variants Cohort Consortium (BPC3), which is a collaborative project to pool data and biospecimens from a group of large prospective cancer epidemiology cohorts. Dr. Sadanand Dhekney is an Assistant Professor of Horticulture at the University of Wyoming. He received his PhD in Horticulture from the University of Florida with specialization in biotechnology of tropical and sub-tropical fruits. Dr. Dhekney’s current research at the University of Wyoming focusses on grapevine genetic improvement using precision breeding. His work involves discovery of genetic elements and genes from the grape genome and development of precision breeding technology for cultivar improvement. He has published 35 research papers, 50 abstracts and 8 book chapters and was a recepient of the 2013 Society for In Vitro Biology ‘Young scientist award’.

My program will utilize techniques in breeding and biotechnology along with improved management practices for expanding grapevine production in Wyoming. Screening Vitis germplasm for yield, quality and cold-hardiness, and evaluation of production systems for seedless grape cultivars in high tunnels will be a major focus area. Additionally, the program will also incorporate recent advances in grapevine genomics and biotechnology for improving abiotic stress tolerance of elite cultivars and rootstocks.

Dr. Bingkun K. Chen is Assistant Professor of Medicine, Director of the Neural Component of the Biomaterials Characterization & Histology Core Laboratory, and Supervisor in Department of Neurology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Dr. Chen graduated with an M.D. in China, further studied in Germany, later received his Ph.D. in Japan, and recently earned his M.B.A. in the United States. Dr. Chen focus on spinal cord injury and regeneration. He developed and optimized two axonal tracing techniques, i. e. Bidiretional axonal tracing with DiI and DiO, and retrograde axonal tracing with Fast Blue (FB). By using tissue engineered technology with biodegradable polymer scaffolds loaded with growth-promoting cells (schwann cells, SCs) to bridge the transection, it might aim to shift the balance in the injured spinal cord towards healing and functional regeneration. Dr. Chen is currently serving on the Mayo Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Mayo Research Safety Committee. Dr. Chen also serves as the Chair of Chinese Student & Scholar Association at Mayo and Chair of Chinese Mayo Employee Resource Group. He is now a director of the Pioneer Research Center for Nanogrid Materials, supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea. He served as a Vice President of Pusan National University in 2012 and an Honorary Professor of University of Queensland, Australia (2013-2015).He was elected to both the Korea Academy of Science and Technology(KAST) and the National Engineering Academy of Korea(NEAK) in 2004. He has served as an editorial board member of several international journals including an Associate Editor of the Advanced Porous Materials as well as an Associate Editor of the Composite Interfaces and the former Editor-in-Chief of the Macromolecular Research(2008 ~ 2011). Dr. Abidi is Associate Professor in the Department of Plant and Soil Science and Associate Director of the Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute at Texas Tech University. He holds a “Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches” from the University of Haute Alsace in France and a Ph.D. from the University of Montpellier II in France. Dr. Abidi has generated more than 58 refereed journal publications, 1 book, 10 book chapters, more than 123 conference papers, 1 patent, 1 provisional patent, and 6 invention disclosures. The research focus of Dr. Abidi span from the characterization of biopolymers using advanced techniques (such as Fourier Transform Infrared imaging) to the development of bioproducts from biopolymers.

Dr Warren Grigsby is a Researcher Leader at Scion (New Zealand) with research activity spanning synthetic and polymer chemistry applications of biopolymer systems. Warren is leading the development of bio-based adhesive and polymer systems that can be used as substitutes for chemicals derived from petroleum. He has a lead role in the direction and coordination of innovative research efforts in both commercial and government-funded research.
